Effective Bible
study:
Here are some helpful hints for those who would like to do God's Will by having a successful weekly Bible study. Day of week: No particular night will suit everyone, so choose a night that would be best for the majority. The person holding the Bible study should decide on the night. Remember, once a night is set, do not change it. Begin promptly: God wants us to practice kindness and consideration for each other, so set the example by always being on time. Visiting and getting to know each other is a very important part of a Bible study. Have social time up to one-half hour before the study. Start the study promptly at the same time each week to glorify God by developing consistently good habits. We are creatures of habit. Some new people are habitually late for everything by a few minutes. Encourage them to be on time by coming to the social time before the study begins. Be patient with everyone so you can be more like our Lord (1 Tim. 1:16). Bible study content: Pass out one new researched Bible study article each week. Listen to an audio tape or watch a video-taped Bible lecture. (We can send you audio or video tapes of Bible lectures free of charge.) Be sure to include the singing of Bible-truth gospel songs (Col. 3:16), perhaps including some that you have written yourself. Always close the Bible study with prayer. Social time: You may want to serve coffee, tea, or juice before the Bible study, and cookies or other light snacks following the study (e.g., finger sandwiches, cheese and crackers, barbecued meatballs, etc.). Be creative. Young children: Children who are not old enough to remain quiet and sit still should not attend. The Bible study should be a time of peace, but use your discretion in such cases. Leadership and purpose: Pray that God's Holy Spirit would lead your study. The one who holds the study will be in charge, but in such a way that it seems no one is in charge. Should the number of people attending your study increase, so too will your leadership role. The purpose of getting together is to provoke and stimulate one another to more love and good works, especially now as you see the end drawing near (Heb. 10:24-25). You are fulfilling these Scriptures by having a Bible study (Matt. 5:19; Dan. 12:3; Luke 11:23, 28). Have a happy time and God bless you for your efforts. Effective Bible
